Corazon Aquino Died at the Age of 76.
The First Woman President of the Philippines and People Power Icon, Corazon Cojuangco Aquino died at the age of 76.
She was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer last year and undergone continuous medication. From then on, many Filipinos have been praying for her recovery.
The ex president was confined to Makati Med for more than a month because she started losing appetite to eat. Sen. Benigno Aquino III, her son, said the cancer had spread to the other organs, causing Ma’am Cory so weak to continue chemotherapy.
Cory died of heart failure at 3:18 a.m. Saturday, Manila Time Aug. 1, 2009.
After the sad news, the Filipino people mourn and pray for the soul of a national hero who became the instrument of a true democracy. A one minute prayer of silence was held at 12 noon.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who is on visit to the United States, even declared a period of national mourning.
At this point, the Aquino family announced the schedule of funeral services for the late president. An organized flow of public viewing is strictly expected. The family also announced a solemn and private burial on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Ex president Cory is such a strong and faithful woman that she fought until the end not only for her health but also for the welfare of the Philippines.
